I usually like the random events that occur out of nowhere in life. I like surprises, things to get me thinking, something that presents a little challenge to learn from. Well, surprises aren’t always welcomed. As we journey through life, we learn that things don’t always go the way we planned.
I have a handful of friends that have been around for what I consider to be forever. Friends who I can go weeks without talking to, but nothing ever changes when we reconnect. Friends who I can call out-of-the-blue because something funny reminded me of them. Friends who aren’t defined by a status on a social network.
Nikki Castro is one of those people. We’ve been friends for almost as far back as I can remember. We met through cheerleading and stayed friends through it all. Like, through the awkward stages of middle school: (I can’t believe I’m posting this.)
through braces… (or this)
And before we knew it, we were seniors in high school…
And soon, one of the most important things in her life will happen…
Baby Kaylyn is due so very soon, and I couldn’t be happier for my lovely childhood friend.
But like I said before, things are not always perfect.
The family is currently at the Ronald McDonald house in Pennsylvania. Baby Kaylyn has to have major surgery after she’s born to remove a growth on her spine. Not only do Nikki and her husband, Alan, have to worry about the risks involved, but there are many tests and treatments that are necessary as well. Unfortunately, their insurance will not cover any of these expenses.
While they wait, we can help.
Below is a link that will tell you the entire story, medical terms included, of what they’re all going through right now. There is a place to donate, in any amount. Every dollar counts.
Thank you in advance to those willing to help. And to Nikki: I cannot wait until your little future cheerleader arrives. Love you, friend.
Xo,
Jenn
