Since my birthday is the day after Christmas, I’m usually eager to get out of the house, out of work, and out for some fun.  So this past birthday was no different, and I celebrated like anyone should.  Turning 27 felt weird.  I liked 26. But, my mind can still revert to early 20′s mode, so i took advantage.  I called up my favorite people and invited them out for a little bash on Saturday, because how uncool is it to go out on a Wednesday?  My sister bought me a dress from LuLus.com that I fell in love with.

And then we hit the town.

I also tried my skills at karaoke.  I sang “Rockin’ Robin.” Not my choice.  I voted for R. Kelly (Remix to Ignition). We got shut down because I don’t know the words and just kept saying “tweet, tweet, tweetly dee.”  Maybe next time.  Maybe not.

The greatest part about my birthday is always seeing the people I love.  So, if you were there, thanks for coming out and celebrating with me.  If not, you missed out!

Remember in the beginning of the year when I did the Resolution Redo?  Well if you don’t, I re-did the whole “New Year’s Resolution” thing to benefit myself in a material way.  I chose a few things that I wanted to obtain/buy throughout the year, and since it’s almost 2013, I wanted to see where I stood on it.

1.  I wanted a tablet.  Well, I bought two laptops and a wireless printer instead.  I had a change of heart, I guess.  I think that counts as a success.

2.  A trip outside of the US.  Chalk that up as a DONE!  I went to Spain and had an absolutely amazing time and now I want to move out of the US, but I need a lifelong visa first.  I’m working on it.

3.  Stuart Weitzman bow shoes.  I bought a lot of shoes this year.  None of them were Stuart Weitzman, but they were pretty great, nonetheless.

4.  I also wanted a specific Marc Jacobs bag, but I’d rather spend $500 on a trip.  (Or a down payment for something like a car, or a house… in Europe.)  I told you, I’m working on it.

5. Running shoes.  DONE.  I bought Nike 4.0 v2s and they are… amazing.  They’re light and comfortable and hi-lighter pink, which is a plus in my book.

I’ll end up doing another New Year’s “Resolution” in a few days, but the re-do style is here to stay.  I don’t like giving things up that I love, but I do enjoy falling in love with new things :)

Cheers to the new year (and new stuff!),

Jenn

Thank you, Sarah!  This post was really fun and took a while, so I hope you guys love it!
So for all of you who are asking what this is, a Liebster Award is passed on from one blogger to the next in order to draw attention to up-and-coming bloggers with 200 followers or less. Once a blogger is nominated, the following steps are required to officially accept the award:
1.  Display the Liebster Award badge on your blog along with the rules.
2.  Display 11 facts about yourself that your followers may not already know.
3.  Answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger who has nominated you.
4.  Create 11 questions to ask each new blogger that you’ve nominated.
5.  Nominate 11 new bloggers (with 200 followers or less) and pass on the news!
IMPORTANT: You may not nominate the blogger who nominated you!
11 Little Known Facts About Me:
1.  I’ve read all the books to Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games. Those are the only movies I will pay to see at a theater.  Judge, judge, judge.
2.  I don’t want kids.  I also hate when people say “You’ll change your mind.”  I promise you, I will not.
3.  I was a cheerleader at USF, but transferred to FSU and became a member of the
Tri-Delta sorority. (DDD PC ’06 what!)
4.  I’m on a mission to be multi-lingual and am currently learning French.
5.  I don’t care if I ever get married and I cringe every time I get a wedding invitation.  However, I do love watching “Say Yes To The Dress.”
6.  I want to move to Europe, like, yesterday.  I’ve been to Greece, England, and Spain and have plans to conquer the entire continent… and then the rest of the world.
 7.  I’ve done a form of bungy jumping and I’ve thrown myself out of a plane, but I am too terrified to get on any sort of motorcycle, scooters included.
8.  I have never been in a fight, but I’ve always wondered if I would win or lose in the event that it happened.
9. When I was little, my sister told me I was found under a rock and I believed her until I asked my parents in 1st grade.
10.  I never cry and I get really uncomfortable around emotional people.
11.  I cheered from age 3 to 20.  Then off and on until I tore my ACL last year.

 Style Philosopher wants to know:
1.    What inspired you to become a blogger?
- I actually started blogging after my knee surgery in July of 2011.  I was couch-ridden and bored to death.  I started blogging to keep me entertained, and when I found out people were reading it, I kept going.
2.    How would you define your personal style?
- My personal style varies on my mood.  I wear everything;  Dresses, jeans, leggings, heels, combat boots, flats, short, long, tight, loose, you name it, I have it.
3.    Who/what are your major style influences?
- I’m not a huge TV watcher and I totally don’t care what celebrities today are doing.  I get style influence from just being around people.  I basically live at the mall, so I do a lot of window shopping and people watching.  If I like something I see, I put a twist to it.  I also love Pinterest and think it’s such a great site to pull ideas from.
4.    What was your favorite style era and why?
- Definitely the 50′s and 60′s. Brigitte Bardot, Eva Marie Saint, Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor… the list just goes on forever.  Styles were so classy then.  Nothing outrageous or trashy.  It was simple and perfect and completely brilliant.
5.    Do you have any general rules or guidelines that may determine the way you dress?
- I don’t really like to follow rules.  I think that’s what style is, really.  If everyone followed all of the rules, everyone would look the same.  I color block.  I wear white after Labor Day.  I have figured out a way to mix brown and black.  I don’t like logos.  If I love something, I wear it.  Fashion is one of the only things I can make decisions about.
6.    What about blogging has been the most rewarding for you?
- I think the most rewarding thing has been seeing the blog travel from place to place and to see where it’s blowing up.  Other than in the US, the number of followers is climbing rapidly in Canada, Brazil, & the UK, which is kind of surreal.  I think it’s cool that I can connect with people that I’ll probably never meet.  I like that.
7.    How do you feel about your current city’s overall sense of style and have you ever thought about how you might influence local trends?
-Oh, Tampa.  Where guys still wear Ed Hardy and Affliction, and girls still wear shirts that have “BEBE” written in rhinestones across the front.  That’s not everyone, but for the most part, I wouldn’t call it a “stylish” city.  I don’t think people are into fashion here.  They buy what’s out.  They put a top with a bottom.  It’s not a thought process.  Working in retail and always being in the mall, I am constantly approached about where I got certain pieces or how I get ideas.  I definitely rub off on some people, but not in any mass amount.
8.     Are there any local brands, boutiques or independent retailers that you might recommend to others who share your taste in fashion?
- I’m not really a boutique shopper.  I love high-end brands, but I can’t bring myself to pay $200 for jeans.  I like to use the internet for previewing and absolutely love UrbanOG, Nasty Gal, and Tobi.
9.     What is your “casual uniform” or wardrobe staples?
Skinny jeans, a flowy tank top, ballerina flats, and bangles.
10.   Aside from being stylish, what are your favorite pastimes?
- Working out, finding new places to travel, and learning.  I can watch the Science Channel for hours.  You can never know too much.
11.   Do you have any thoughts of inspiration or words of wisdom you’d like to offer to others who might like to further develop their personal style?
-If you love something, wear it.  Having the confidence to wear something out of your norm is the hardest thing to obtain, but once you have it, you can rock anything.

As a send-off to my beloved Summer, I called my favorite photographer for a day of fun in the sun.  All of the (professional) pictures of me on this blog were done by the more-than-talented Christina Hinnant and her company, Photography Blu.   We woke up early, she did my hair and make-up, and we set out on our fun day.  She is amazing to say the least and I find comfort knowing that I can act like a nut and she doesn’t judge me ;) .  There are entirely too many photos to post on one blog, so check G&G on Facebook later today to see the rest, or visit the Photo Gallery at the top of the page.  Here is a sneak peek of my day with her at this amazing location.

(Yellow cut-off shorts and floral crop top by Charlotte Russe)

(Bottoms by Victoria’s Secret, Top by PacSun, Bracelets by Betsey Johnson)

(Getting a little risque.  Sorry, Dad.)

(Swimsuit by Victoria’s Secret PINK)

Now go visit Photography Blu on Facebook and show her some love.  If you want to book a shoot with Christina of yourself, your children, or you and some friends, feel free to e-mail me at glitterandgarb@gmail.com.  Like I said, she’s great.

Xo,

Jenn

Glitter & Garb has officially become a part of AC Luxe – an online source of fashion and nightlife in Atlantic City, South Jersey, and Philadelphia.  The site went live today and I couldn’t be more excited!

I’m writing for a column (titled Glitter & Garb, cool!) and will be doing a lot of the same things I do here: writing about fashion, things that inspire me, all things awesome, you know the routine.

I will continue to write about my personal life here and will be sharing a few things that I’m shooting to the North.  So, in the meantime, keep reading, give me some feedback, and thanks for staying connected with me!

Wish me luck,

Jenn

Travel.  Explore.  Be completely lost.  Learn something.

My idea of perfection.

For the past 3 years, I’ve gone somewhere outside of the United States.  Outside of my comfort zone.  Outside of my norm.  If I can do this forever, I will.  I want to see everything.

First I went to Greece, where communication was nearly impossible.  I couldn’t read the signs, I couldn’t talk to people.  The scenery is too much for words anyway. I rode a donkey up a mountain, I climbed a volcano, and I saw one of the most famous sunsets in the world. I absolutely loved it.

Oia, Greece

Last year, I went to London with my boyfriend, Adam.

We went to a big soccer game.  Arsenal vs. Aston Villa.

Crazily awesome.

Tickets

Emirates Stadium

I found out the tipping isn’t customary, but very much appreciated.  And hanging out with the locals in a dark bar is the best way to end the night… unless you get hungry after drinking, because everything closes early.  There is no late-night eating. Thank you, room service.

Slim Jim's; Islington, England

And the architecture…

Trafalgar Square

In exactly one month, I’ll be in Spain.  In exactly one month, I’ll be parading around Barcelona.  12 days of complete immersion into another culture. I’m perfecting my Spanish skills and am determined to only use English when I talk to Adam.  One month to prepare my travel survival kit.  I might burst with excitement.

I. Cannot. Wait!

Wish me luck,

Jenn

Hello, Makeover!

Contrary to popular belief, I have not been neglecting G&G at all.  As the site was in dire need of pick-me-up, I decided to completely re-vamp.  It took me a little while to figure out how to change everything up, move things around, upload, and beautify, but I managed to do it! I can’t go without mentioning that once again, Christina Hinnant (aka Superwoman, from Photography Blu), was an immense help.  She created the header and did all the photos in the new gallery.  I really can’t stop talking about her and the company… it’s basically impossible.

I am also embarking on a slight adventure with Glitter and Garb.  I’ve been thinking…and I’ve decided to include doses of my life on top of all the fashion-related pieces.  I’m talking travel, fitness, family, and anything else that could tear you away from the day for a few minutes.  Actually, some unusually cool things are happening and I feel it’s only necessary to share. :)   So go explore the new areas, share it if you love it, and tell me what you think!

Thanks kids!

Jenn

I’ve come to realize that January 1st is packed full of baggage, whether you start the year off with a stealthy hangover or wondering if this is really the year the world will end. On the other hand, it also starts a brand new year full of fresh starts, goals, and challenges.  These things are otherwise known as Resolutions.

I had a New Year’s Resolution once.  I don’t remember what it was and I think it’s safe to say I didn’t follow it after the first week.  I realized that the dreadful resolution always involves something you don’t really want to do, but you think you should.  Kicking a habit, losing weight, and helping others are just a few that I’ve heard over and over… and over.

This year, I’m switching things up and personally I think it’s a stellar idea.  My New Year’s Resolution doesn’t involve giving something up, but bringing something in.  “Be a little selfish” is what I’m telling myself this year, and I’m inviting you to join in on the fun. I have fashioned a list of different things I just HAVE to have this year and my resolution is to sporadically obtain all of them.  Nothing too crazy, I mean I won’t go buy a Lamborghini, but I might treat myself to that Marc Jacobs bag I’ve been eyeing for two months, or that pair of Stuart Weitzman shoes that make me want to melt.  It’s good to give, right?  So why not give to yourself?  Now, don’t go buy everything in sight and throw yourself into a hole of debt, but choose a few amazing things, big or small, and get them for yourself throughout the year.  If you have to save for it, do it.  Think about what makes you happy, and make it happen.

Happy New Year!

Write you soon,

Jenn

Dear Santa,

Please?

  • Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Francesca Handbag
  • Chi Hair Straightener in PINK
  • Henri Bendel Chaotic Pearl Bracelet
  • Studio Blockbuster by Sephora
  • Victoria’s Secret Zip-Up Hoodie
  • A trip to Australia… I’ve been really good.
